Third Training School

The third Training School of the Action will take place in March 2018, in Tallinn.

13th – 16th March 2018

Purpose

The purpose of the Training School (see programme) is to learn how to prepare metadata for publication in a union catalogue of early modern correspondence.

2 trainers and 13 trainees.

Second Training School

The second Training School of the Action took place in July 2017, in Como.

10th – 14th July 2017

Purpose

The Training School workshops centered on the co-development and design of visual interfaces for the Republic of Letters,  focusing on a handful of specific problems identified by Working Groups as crucial to the visualisation strategies of the field.

Attendees

28 trainers and trainees were selected to attend the training school.

First Training School

 

 

The first Training School of the Action took place in March 2015, in Oxford, in conjunction with the Oxford Conference and Working Group meetings. It is planned to hold further Training Schools during the course of the Action.

 

Date

22nd – 25th March 2015

Purpose

The Training School saw key network members and associates delivering sessions that explored some of the key techniques and resources involved in applying digital technology to the study of the early modern republic of letters. The Training School also incorporated the COST Action conference as a means of providing trainees with a broad, up-to-date conspectus of technical and scholarly developments in the field.

Attendees

Supported by trainers from within and outside the COST Action network, 23 trainees have been selected to attend the training school.

Format

  • GIS (Geographic Information System), session led by Ian Gregory
  • Humanities+Design, Stanford University, on their visualisation tool Palladio
  • Ruth and Sebastian Ahnert, leading a session on network analysis
  • Circulation of Knowledge and Learned Practices in the 17th-century Dutch Republic (CKCC), presenting their textual visualisation platform, ePistolarium
  • Cultures of Knowledge, Oxford, presenting Early Modern Letters Online (EMLO).
  • An interactive visualization tool developed by Density Design, session led by Paolo Ciucarelli.
